| Ted Peters, Ph.D.,is
Professor of Systematic Theology at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary
and the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA. He also currently
serves as Program Director for the Science and Religion Course Program
at the Center for Theology and the Natural Sciences. Dr. Peters was
the principal investigator for the theological questions raised by a
scientific study sponsored by the Human Genome Initiative. He has authored
and edited several highly regarded textbooks and research studies in
the field of theology, ethics, and genetics, including Playing God?
Genetic Determinism and Human Freedom (New York and London: Routledge,
1997). He is also author of For the Love of Children: Genetic Technology
and the Future of the Family (Louisville, KY: Westminster John Knox
1996) and editor of Genetics: Issues of Social Justice (Cleveland,
OH: Pilgrim, 1998). In the bioethics field, Dr. Peters’ work focuses
on the frontier of genetic research and its implications for theological
anthropology, ethics, and public policy.
