Michael B. Fossel, M.D., Ph.D., serves as a Clinical Professor of Medicine at Michigan State University. As the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Anti-Aging Medicine, the only peer-reviewed scientific journal dedicated to publishing research on altering clinical aging and age-related disease, Dr. Fossel stresses the ethical issues involved in extending the human lifespan. He is the recipient of a National Science Foundation Fellowship and serves on the Scientific Board of the American Aging Association, as well as on the board of the American College of Clinical Gerontology. Dr. Fossel's book Reversing Human Aging (New York: W. Morrow, 1996) was favorably reviewed in Scientific American and is published in six languages. The book discusses not only the genetics and cell biology that underlie human aging, but the cultural, ethical, and religious implications of extending the human lifespan. He has also written numerous chapters and articles on the biological and ethical issues inherent in extending the human lifespan, including several articles for the Journal of the American Medical Association and In Vivo. Dr. Fossel is currently writing a textbook for Oxford University Press, Cell Senescence in Human Aging, which is due out later this year. He is frequently interviewed regarding scientific and ethical issues of aging by PBS, CNN, BBC, and ABC's Good Morning America and 20/20. Dr. Fossel lectures internationally and is a well-known speaker on aging and the implications of clinical intervention in aging.
