| Diogenes Allen,
Ph.D., is the Stuart Professor of Philosophy at Princeton Theological
Seminary. Dr. Allen, a former Rhodes Scholar and Princeton National
Fellow, received his B.A. from Oxford University and his M.A. and Ph.D.
from Yale. He is also the past recipient of the Pew Evangelical Scholarship
(1991-92) and the Research Fellowship of the Center of Theological Inquiry
(1994-95). Dr. Allen has served as Visiting Professor at Drew University
(1978) and the University of Notre Dame (1980, 1994). As a philosopher
of religion, he has a longstanding interest in the grounds for religious
belief, the problem of evil, and the nature of spirituality. Dr. Allen
has published extensively and is author of Christian Belief in a
Postmodern World: The Full Wealth of Conviction (Atlanta, GA: Westminster
John Knox Press, 1989); Philosophy for Understanding Theology (Louisville,
KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 1985); Spiritual Theology: The Theology
of Yesterday for Spiritual Help Today (Louisville, KY: Westminster
John Knox Press, 1997); and Primary Readings in Philosophy for Understanding
Theology (coedited with Eric O. Springsted; Louisville, KY: Westminster
John Knox Press, 1992). He currently serves on the Board of the American
Weil Society and the Advisory Committee of the Center of Theological
Inquiry; he also is a cofounder and member of the Executive Board and
Editorial Council of Theology Today. An ordained Presbyterian
minister, Dr. Allen preaches, speaks frequently at colleges, and leads
church retreats. His current area of research is spiritual theology.
